Introducing Lars Behrenroth…
I myself have known Lars for several years now in an online capacity, around 6 years to be precise. We’ve discussed DJ booth designs, equipment and of course deep house over the years. I personally consider Lars to be a gentleman first and probably the most important thing that has happened to deep house in general.
He has consistently championed the genre delivering the very best tunes from the scene helping the un-signed and highlighting previously under the radar gems.
His legendary weekly curated show has been rolling since 2002. Take that in a moment, each and every week since 2002. That is 24 years at the forefront of deep house! Thank you Lars!
Lars Behrenroth’s journey started pretty humbly; DJing at a local dance school in Germany. Fast forward more than 30 years, and he’s headlining festivals with crowds of 25,000 people in places like South Africa. Along the way, he’s built a reputation for keeping dance floors moving all over the world.
He’s played at well-known clubs in cities like LA, Leipzig, Detroit, Montreal, and Paris, and since the early 2000s he’s built a strong following in South Africa. He’s toured there multiple times, often sharing lineups with artists like Black Coffee, Culoe De Song, and Osunlade. In 2017, he even picked up the South African Dance Music Award for Best International DJ.
As mentioned, his weekly radio show, Deeper Shades of House, has been running for 24 years now. It’s a two-hour show that airs on stations around the world and reaches close to a quarter of a million listeners every month. It’s also featured as a popular podcast on iTunes.
On the production side, Lars has spent nearly three decades honing his craft. He’s released music on respected labels like Freerange, Compost, and Sonar Kollektiv, and has remixed a wide range of artists; from underground names to bigger acts like Beyoncé and Black Coffee.
