German house music artist Oliver Dollar has announced his forthcoming LP Contemporary on Rekids. Since 2024, he has released four EPs on Radio Slave’s imprint, collaborating with more than a dozen artists and singer-songwriters. The releases have received widespread support from tastemakers including Dam Swindle, Louie Vega, Honey Dijon, Hunee, Kai Alce, and others.
Speaking on the project, Dollar explains:
“Contemporary reflects what I’m playing right now — from deeper cuts to more jacking and booty-driven tracks. I’ve been working on this album for the past four years and I’m grateful to all the collaborators and remixers who have helped bring it to life so far. Huge thanks as well to the Rekids team for giving me complete creative freedom and the platform to bring my favourite artists and friends along for the journey.”
Since launching his Industry Standard label in 2011, Oliver Dollar has established himself as a respected figure in global house music. Early on, he was a key advocate of Berlin’s fidget house movement, which helped lead to releases on influential labels such as Snatch!, Classic Music Company, and Defected. Known for his collaborative approach, he has previously worked alongside artists including Crazy P, Mousse T, and Todd Edwards. With Contemporary, Dollar fully embraces this ethos, assembling a diverse, transatlantic group of friends and collaborators that bridges Berlin and Detroit through a shared house music language.
The album opens with “The New Is Here,” a soulful and reflective collaboration with Nils Ohrman that establishes a sense of warmth and purpose. The track was later reinterpreted as a club-ready dub on Contemporary Part Four. From there, Contemporary moves into “Downtown,” created with Phil WZK — a deep, jazz-tinged cut built around a spoken-word monologue that feels both personal and timeless.
Across the album, vocal contributions from APROPOS, Boog Brown, and Billy Love inject elements of soul and gospel, while producers such as ADMN, Seven Davis Jr., Harvard Bass, Brillstein, and Austin Ato craft grooves spanning disco-infused highs to deep, dubby hypnosis. Rather than functioning as a collection of individual features, Contemporary unfolds as a cohesive statement — celebrating collaboration, community, and the enduring spirit of house music.
