At HITA we have lived through the golden era of house music and the early rave culture. The time when it was all about the music and friendships on the dance floor. It has become our mission and some say our duty as custodians of the best musical genre on the planet to bring those unforgettable experiences to todays emerging house heads.
You only have to rewind the dance floor to the late 80s, early 90s and compare to the dance floor of today to see what the fundamental issue is. Yes yes, I know, times change and the economic and social climate has a huge bearing on the mood of the time, but the dance floor is a sanctuary and safe haven from all that.

House music and dancing (I mean really letting yourself go) is a release from the struggles and stresses of life. Until you’ve lost yourself on the dance floor you’ll probably wonder what the hell I’m going on about. Just trust me on this, there is no greater feeling than the euphoric connection with the music, the DJ and your fellow clubbing strangers where for that moment become your brothers and sisters.
How are we going to achieve this?
It’s so so simple. Yes we need to improve DJs across the board and go back to earning your spot as a DJ etc etc., but that is for another post. But the most important step is to put our phones away. In this massively social conscious world we live in where its more important to be seen to be in the club or at an event where we saw this particular celebrity behind the decks blah blah blah.
This all leads to that brief moment of happiness in the form of a like on your post from a random stranger or two. You have no idea what you are missing out on. I’m usually behind the decks but over the decades I have taken full advantage of the rare nights off where I’m on the other side and taking in the music and letting go. It’s so special and a pure rush, when the DJ knows their music and hits the spot.
Until the DTP (Ditch The Phone) movement achieves dance floor phone bans across the globe, lets make a start together and get back to the music. Give it a try and thank me later!
There’s been some great work done in this area with some of the big clubs across the world enforcing phones on the dance floor bans but we need to keep pushing until like the smoking ban it is no longer acceptable on any dance floor.
